Are we there yet?

blueskygroupI am sure you have asked the question, “Are we there yet?”, to your parents before. I feel like a little kid days before the Healthcare Staffing Summit. But, one of the craziest things for me as an adult was realizing that after months of preparation and anticipation, the 2012 Healthcare Summit was over in a flash.

Just because you are arriving home and are no longer in the “moment,” doesn’t mean that there is nothing left to do for the 2012 Healthcare Staffing Summit. Actually, it is just the opposite. The post-show follow-up is just as important as the pre-show preparation.

If you downloaded the Unofficial Guide to the Healthcare Staffing Summit there is a list of items to do pre-show to ensure that you make the most of your experience at the Summit.  In this blog, I am going to give you four things you can’t forget to do once you get home from the Healthcare Staffing Summit.

2013 To-Do/Don't Forget Post-Summit List:

1.  Plan a post event meeting, as soon as possible, with the team that attended as well as your crew that manned the post at home. Find out from everyone, what worked well and what didn’t from all aspects of the show. It is important to include your ground crew because this will help your planning for next year on who to bring and who to leave home.

2.  Make a list of follow up items and then segment that list. Items you need to follow-up with immediately and then those within a two weeks. Do not let these items go longer than two weeks because they will NEVER get done. It is critical to give your team actionable items and segmenting the list will make it less overwhelming.

3.  Do your follow-up. Many times you get home and are overwhelmed with the amount of work to do after being out of the office for several days and because of that you lose momentum the Healthcare Staffing Summit gives you.

Don’t let this stop you and your team from following up with the connections that you made.  Set aside time on your calendar to do post-Healthcare Staffing Summit follow-up. With today’s technology it is SO easy to follow-up with folks. Find them on Facebook, Linked In or just shoot a quick email asking how their trip home was. It doesn’t have to be rocket science or require a ton of time – just do it!

4.  Bring more than swag back for your team and put your notes to good work.  Share the knowledge with your team that wasn’t able to attend the Summit.  There are so many great sessions, so do a “Show and Tell” with your entire team and let each person talk about their favorite session and what they got most out of the Summit. You will be surprised how this will help carry over the momentum into the weeks after you are home.

Good luck and don’t forget to follow-up!  Before you know it we will all be in Chicago for the 2013 Summit.
