4 Ways to Set – and Achieve – Healthy Goals for 2020. Ready to ring in the new year with a set of healthy goals you can keep? Well, if you're like most, those well-intentioned "new year's resolutions" might be a thing of the past by Valentine's Day. One of the main reasons is that many goals can be unrealistic.

Follow These 4 Tips for Healthy Goal Setting in 2020

While someone may have a goal to sell a startup for 1 billion dollars, or have their screenplay win an Academy Award, chances of either happening could be a challenge. When it comes to your health – and your health-related goals – the key is to "get real."

Setting Healthy Goals for 2020

As a hospital administrator, HR manager, or healthcare recruiter, you may be thinking about setting healthy goals for 2020 but are unsure of where to start.

The good news is setting health-related goals doesn't have to be complicated. They should incorporate achievable steps to enhance your quality of life by promoting good health practices. These may include getting more exercise, stopping smoking, changing to a healthier diet, curtailing your alcohol consumption, managing stress, etc.

Setting health-related goals should not only be about creating unrealistic limitations, such as staying unrealistically thin or depriving yourself of the foods you love. They should be about feeling great, having more energy, and improving your health. Here are four ways to achieve your health goals:

Set Clear Objectives

The first step is to have clear objectives about your health so you can design a path. Think to yourself: "How can I improve my health and wellness?" It seems easy, but it can be tricky.

Try to hone your health-related objectives to no more than three (preferably one or two), and then…

Write Down your Goals

The act of writing down a health-related goal makes it real and tangible. You have no excuse for forgetting about it. As you write, use the word "will" instead of "would like to" or "might." For example, "I will increase my workouts to three times a week" vs., "I would like to increase my workouts to three times a week." The first statement enables you to "see" yourself achieving your goal, instead of "hoping" to do it.

Make an Action Plan

Setting an achievable action plan is an essential step in the process of goal setting. By writing out the individual steps, and then crossing each one off once completed, you'll realize that you're making progress. This is especially important if your goal is long-term, such as quitting smoking once and for all.

Revisit your Goals

Review your goals regularly to keep on track and tweak them as necessary. Post them in visible places to remind yourself every day of what it is you intend to do. Put them on walls, desk, computer monitor, bathroom mirror, or refrigerator as a constant reminder.

And Finally, Revisit The Goals Next Year!

When it comes to setting your 2020 health-related goals, it's much more than merely saying you want something to happen. The path to success means you should clearly define what you want and understand why you want it. By following the above steps, you can set goals with confidence and enjoy the satisfaction of achieving what you set out to do.
