4 Tips for Healthcare Staffing Agencies to Hiring Internal Staff

Having held the position of hiring manager for a small business, and currently working as an implementation specialist within the healthcare staffing software industry, I understand the challenges of hiring the perfect employee.  Finding an employee who not only understands the healthcare staffing industry, but who can keep up with the ever-changing world of technology, can be few and far between.  Based on my personal experience I have compiled a list of 4 tips for hiring the right internal staff.

1.  Be Specific with your Job Description

Too often I see job postings that are weak and lack a true understanding of the job.  Too brief of a description will attract confused, unqualified, and ill-equipped applicants.  Being specific with your job description can assure you will get the most qualified applicants with the highest potential to positively influence your business.

2.  Listen to your Candidates

Implement a strategy that allows the interviewee to discuss their background and future with the company.  Many managers feel it necessary to discuss the requirements of the position before hearing from the candidate.  It is important to let the interviewee communicate what they are looking for out of the position.  Let them sell you; don’t sell the position to them.

3.  Test their Skills

While an applicant may possess great interviewing skills and have a wealth of experience there are additional ways to test them against the job description.  Personality, Competency, and Numerical testing are great ways to test an applicant for their suitability within your company.  This process will speak volumes about the applicant and give companies an inside look to what they can expect.

4.  Check References

Effective background checks can be one of the most important steps when hiring an employee.  Be sure to verify that all the presented sterling credentials, skills, and experience are actually possessed by your candidates.

In Conclusion

Hiring the wrong staff member can be expensive, time consuming, and create an unhealthy work environment.  On the other hand, hiring the right staff can pay you back a thousand fold by creating high employee morale, and increasing productivity.  Although this list was compiled from my own personal experiences hopefully you will find these tips helpful in hiring the right internal staff for your company.
