What to look for in a Healthcare Staffing and Recruiting Software

If you are in the market for healthcare staffing and recruiting software, you have your work cut out for you! There are several options to choose from and finding the best solution for your company is key.  Not every healthcare staffing and recruiting software can be everything to everyone, so working through your options, even if it takes time, will ultimately save time and money in the future.

What are your options?

Some options to choose from include: Excel spreadsheets, non-healthcare specific staffing software and industry specific healthcare staffing and recruiting software. Non-healthcare specific recruiting software may be the right direction for you - if it is configurable and you have the time to make it fit your needs.  Keep in mind that many times this type software is great for recruiting but may not help with credentialing and quality assurance which are both a big part of being in the healthcare staffing industry.

If being Joint Commission certified is an important business objective, then this should definitely be addressed when choosing software.  Having an industry specific healthcare staffing and recruiting software can greatly reduce the costs associated with being Joint Commission compliant.  There are items like "Do Not Return" reports and quality assurance checks will be extremely benficial to your credentialing team.

Do it yourself, does it save you money?

The biggest mistake we see companies make, is to try and create everything themselves in an effort to cut costs.  This practice almost never works and the glaring holes of a home-grown system are seen as companies begin to expand.  I cannot begin to tell you the number of companies using spreadsheets, who come to us with broken processes which eventually end up costing them more than just time.

Ultimately choosing a healthcare staffing and recruiting software is a very personal decision and not one that should be made without some careful planning.  We always advise potential clients to make a long "wish list" and as you evaluate different software companies, refine the list to indicate what you have vs. what you would like to have.  The list serves as your personal map to guide you to your ultimate destination.
